Acetaminophen 500mg is used for the short-term relief of minor aches and pains due to colds, flu, headache, backache, arthritis, toothache, muscle pain, and menstruation. It also temporarily reduces fever. Outside of the United States, Canada, and Japan, acetaminophen is called paracetamol. For pain control after surgery, prescription intravenous (IV) acetaminophen is available.

Acetaminophen Dosing Information

Maximum Safe Doses:

• Adults and children 12+ years who weigh at least 110 pounds: No more than 1000 mg per dose or 4000 mg per day
• Children under 12 years: No more than 5 doses in 24 hours using only the number of milligrams per dose that is recommended for the child’s weight and age. Do not exceed the recommended dosage for your child’s age or weight.
